Help CFUM reach $100,000

Children & Family Urban Movement’s (CFUM) mission is to create a community that supports the potential of children, youths and families through educational success, healthy living and community engagement.

Recent test results show that 61% of students at Moulton Elementary are at risk of reading below grade level and need your help. CFUM is focused on matching volunteer reading mentors with students to work together each week after school. The time together will allow younger students to work on letters and sight words, while older students will read to their mentor and complete workbook activities. If you would like to be a reading mentor and read one day a week to a student from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. at either of its locations: Trinity Las Americas Church or Moulton Elementary School please call Sabrina Ollie at 515-282-3242 or email

“As we all know, reading at grade level is a prerequisite to success in school and beyond,” said Tony Timm, executive director at CFUM. “Furthermore, we also know that if children are not reading at grade level, education is challenging, and the odds of graduating from high school are reduced. For more than 27 years, the Children and Family Urban Movement has focused on working with students from Moulton Elementary to help them succeed in school and life.” However there is a cost to provide these programs and only part of our participants are covered by childcare assistance. That means that as many as 75 participants in CFUM programming are not covered by a funding source. Your help in providing scholarships for these children will help ensure that they have access to a safe, supportive place to spend their time during out-of-school hours. Your donation of $100 provides a week of programming, $400 provides a month, and $4,800 provides a year.
